Neutral Projects is an architecture practice with a focus and specialism in residential architecture; both high end and multi-unit.
We offer architectural services from RIBA Stages 0 - 6; from feasibility studies and concept work through to technical design and overseeing on-site construction.
Our approach is collaborative, exploratory and three dimensional. We work in 3D from the very beginning and throughout the project reserving traditional flat drawings for space planning purposes and the latter tendering and construction project stages. As such, visuals and 3D diagrams are always part of our service and are all produced in house.
We ask probing questions and listen carefully to understand our client’s needs, values and aspirations. This briefing process is critical; it forms the foundation and defines the success of every project.
We understand that architecture must serve both those that commission it and the wider public whose environment it constitutes. This awareness informs our design approach and fosters a more constructive and collaborative dialogue with local planning authorities. We navigate the complexities of the planning process and have experience working on highly constrained sites with multiple planning designations. Our proposals are always contextually sensitive and settle seamlessly into their environments.
On sustainability.
We strive to ensure our designs minimise their impact on the environment. The built environment is responsible for some 40% of global carbon emissions.
We do this by focusing on two things; ‘operational’ carbon (carbon emitted through the building’s use) and ‘embodied’ carbon (the sum of the carbon emitted from the materials used). The former can be minimised by implementing passive design strategies, taking a fabric first approach and harnessing renewable energies. The latter can be reduced with careful selection of low-embodied-carbon materials.

We are currently working on a range of projects and building up a body of work. Scroll down to see a selection of photos and images of projects past and present. These include the full remodeling and extension of a grade II listed townhouse in Islington, a new poolside bar, cinema room and gym in the New Forest and a new family home in Hampshire.

Max is an RIBA Chartered Architect with a wealth of experience in practice working at a variety of scales; from that of the strategic city masterplan down to the fine detail of the interior.
He has worked at both large, internationally acclaimed practices such as Foster and Partners and Allies and Morrison and at smaller boutique practices like David Money Architects and Charles Rutherfoord.
Max has a creative, yet careful and considered approach to his work, striving for design solutions that are clear and logical.
As a student his work was recognised for its excellence winning the prestigious RIBA East Award and continues to be acknowledged for its high quality as a professional with Neutral Projects, soon after its inception, being shortlisted as a finalist for the Surface Design Awards and longlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2024.
Before setting up the practice in 2023, Max completed a self-initiated and self-built spa facility in the New Forest; an experimental build that tested a range of digitally-enabled building and assembly techniques.
Max brings this hands-on experience to his work, keeping design details practical and buildable during design stages and working closely with the construction team to solve any design-related site issues.
